Committees and Interest Groups

Committees and interest groups are an important part of synagogue life, and Temple Kehillat Chaim has a number of each in which we encourage our members to participate.

Adult Education Committee: This committee is responsible for adult programming for both Jewish and non-Jewish topics. Sample courses include Basic Judaism, Introduction to Hebrew, Torah Study, and Interfaith Workshops.

Brotherhood: The Brotherhood provides an opportunity to meet, work and have fun with fellow male members of TKC. The Brotherhood provides support to many charitable organizations in North Fulton, organizes several family events at TKC, and manages some “behind the scenes” operations to ensure the success of various TKC religious and non-religious events. Brotherhood members are highly visible around TKC. They serve as ushers for the High Holidays, are responsible for producing the annual directory, and strive for victory with the “Pride of TKC” softball team. The Brotherhood also sponsors a weekly bagel and coffee corner each Sunday morning during Religious School.

Caring Core Committee: This committee assures that any member in grief or distress receives a congregational response to let him\her know that we care and will try to help.

Adult Choir: The Adult Choir is comprised of a group of Kehillah members who love to sing. They enhance selected services at TKC and participate in a variety of events. Members meet weekly to rehearse. ABILITY TO READ MUSIC OR TO READ HEBREW, IS NOT REQUIRED.

Junior Choir: This choir is offered to children in grades 2 through 7 and meets twice a month after Religious School. The Junior Choir sings at monthly Family Shabbat services as well as other services, concerts and programs.

Religious School Committee: This committee, is responsible for establishing educational policies and curriculum for the Mitzner Family Religious School and meets approximately six times a year

Preschool Committee: This committee is responsible for establishing educational policies and curriculum for the TKC Preschool which meets approximately six times a year.

High Holy Days Services Committee: This committee is responsible for planning and coordinating our High Holy Day services.

Homeless Shelter Committee: The Zaban Homeless Shelter is maintained by several synagogues in the Atlanta metro area. Temple Kehillat Chaim is one of the synagogues that assist on a regular basis by providing and serving food to the approximately 60 residents of the shelter during the winter months. This committee is responsible for scheduling individuals to assist at the shelter.

Membership Committee: The Membership Committee’s main responsibility is to help grow and retain our congregation. Outreach efforts are targeted to the unaffiliated Jewish population. The committee responds to prospect inquiries and conducts events to provide information about TKC. Inreach efforts target our current membership to welcome new members and acclimate them to the Temple Kehillat Chaim family.

Programming Committee: This committee is responsible for coordinating events at Temple Kehillat Chaim and within the greater Atlanta Jewish community.

Religious Life and Practices Committee: This committee is responsible for providing the Board of Trustees with guidance on worship initiatives and determines religious policy along with the Rabbi and Cantor for Temple Kehillat Chaim.

Sisterhood: Temple Kehillat Chaim Sisterhood offers opportunities for adult female members to pursue interests including books, education, Judaica, leadership, social outings, volunteering or participation in Jewish holidays and celebrations. Sisterhood operates the Kehillah Gift Shop and supports our TKC family and community life spiritually, financially, and educationally.

Treasurer’s Committee: The Treasurer’s Committee monitors the overall fiscal health of Temple Kehillat Chaim and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees on financial matters, budgets and dues relief.

Youth Committee: Oversees Youth Groups
