About

Rabbi Jason Holtz serves as the senior rabbi of Temple Kehillat Chaim in Roswell, Georgia. He is passionate about building a synagogue community that is both spiritually vibrant and welcoming to people from all backgrounds. With a commitment to Reform Jewish values, he seeks to create a Judaism that is intellectually honest, emotionally resonant, and rooted in our shared tradition.

At the heart of Rabbi Holtz’s rabbinate is a love of teaching and learning. At Temple Kehillat Chaim, he regularly teaches both children and adults, including a weekly Wednesday afternoon course on a variety of Jewish topics and an Introduction to Judaism course. Beyond the synagogue, he teaches at Senior Enriched Learning (SEL) in Roswell, where past classes have included How a Rabbi Reads Genesis and A History of Big Ideas that Changed the World. Whether in the sanctuary, classroom, or community setting, his teaching seeks to make Jewish wisdom accessible, thought-provoking, and deeply relevant to people’s lives. His sermons and classes often weave together classical sources, modern philosophy, and contemporary experiences, creating opportunities for reflection and growth while honoring the diversity of perspectives within the congregation.

Rabbi Holtz was ordained at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion and has previously served congregations in Arizona and the United Kingdom. He is active in the Atlanta Rabbinic Association, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, and serves on the board of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Atlanta.

When he’s not at synagogue, Rabbi Holtz enjoys golf, photography, and riding his Triumph Bonneville motorcycle. He also loves cooking and spending time with his family.

The Next Chapter at TKC
My first time at Temple Kehillat Chaim was in 2017, when I was applying for the rabbinic position. Jodi and our ten-month-old Asher came along. Ezra wasn’t born yet. During that visit, we found a wonderful, down-to-earth community. Small by some typical synagogue measurements, but with a big heart, genuine warmth, and a spirit of welcoming that was immediately real. In the summer of 2018, I officially began as only the second rabbi in TKC’s history, after Rabbi Winokur. I’m proud and grateful...

What Chanukah Really Means
Chanukah is often described as the “Festival of Lights,” but its deeper meaning can sometimes get lost behind familiar rituals and stories. This year, I wanted to step back and ask a simple question: what does Chanukah really celebrate? In the video below, I explore Chanukah through classical Jewish sources, focusing on Jewish identity, cultural encounter, and the challenge of remaining rooted and visible in a broader world. Rather than comparing Chanukah to other holidays, this teaching...

The Joy of Chanukah
Chanukah arrives this year at a moment when many are feeling the weight of darkness. Around the world, Jews are facing a rise in antisemitism. Since October 7, 2023 and throughout the war that followed, our community and others have carried grief, fear, anger, and exhaustion. And yet, right in the middle of the darkest weeks of the year, Judaism gives us a festival built entirely around light. Chanukah is not only about resistance to tyrants. It is also about the upside of Judaism, the...
