What Shelters Us? - Sukkot D'var Torah 2026
In this year's Sukkot d'var Torah, I ask "Where do we find shelter?"
Leviticus 23:43 says, "So that your generations will know that I made the Israelites dwell in sukkot (shelters) when I brought them out of the land of Egypt."
But what exactly were these shelters? And importantly, does God provide shelter or do we build our own? An ancient rabbinic dispute helps us understand our own lives today - are the best parts the parts that we build, nurture and grow ourselves, or the parts that we did nothing for but enjoy anyways?
